The Tree of Life – First Look

I’ve been anxiously awaiting director Terrence Malick’s new film The Tree of Life (2011) for several years now since I first heard the rumors for it. After seeing The Thin Red Line (1998) in the theater 12 years ago, I’ve been anxiously awaiting everyday for ANYTHING Terrence Malick does. The Thin Red Line is a breathtaking movie and the best WWII movie ever made in my opinion…just sneaking past Saving Private Ryan (1998). Malick just may be my favorite film director of all time…he’s definitely Top 5! And today I got the greatest surprise from Apple with the release of a trailer for his incredibly epic new film. Just look at some of the imagery in this trailer…it BLOWS MY MIND with its brilliance! Malick’s work is so pure, so poetic, and so epic. Brad Pitt AND Sean Penn in a Malick film…speechless. I will definitely be in the theaters on opening day (May 27, 2011) for this one…probably at midnight!!

The synopsis for this film, as listed on Apple’s trailer website, is just as poetic as Malick’s visual imagery for the film:

“From Terrence Malick, the acclaimed director of such classic films as Badlands, Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950’s. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick’s signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.”
